910 Plateau Rd: The form of this side-yard house hews more closely to historical precedent than most of my work. Its Charleston progenitor serves the site and program well, however, offering protection from the high-speed county road it enfronts while maintaining a legible entry from the pedestrian viewpoint. The first and second floor side porches give physical access to the yard and visual access to southwestern mountain views. The house’s interior and exterior architectural detailing is much more streamlined than its historical prototype, however, as befits its origin as a speculative business venture, as well as its standing among its more modern neighbors.
